In this video we discuss: -Ways to get more nursing hours -Ways to find nurses to fill your child's shifts -Do's and Don'ts for keeping nurses (avoiding turnover): DO make sure the working environment is organized and clean; DO make sure that you treat any nurse with respect and gratitude; DO make sure that you are only asking nurses to do what is in the scope of their job; DO show your appreciation. On a daily basis, thank them for their work. On tough days, extra words of appreciation go a long way. Notes, cards or small gifts for holidays or birthdays showing nurses gratitude for the care they give your child; DO take time to train the nurse in the specifics of your child and home environment, including expectations for calling out or taking time off. Make checklists to keep communication easy if needed; DO allow a few minutes communicate at the beginning and end of every shift; DO follow through if a nurse communicates that something isn’t working or needs to be tweaked. DON’T be late in relieving a nurse from her shift; DON’T hire a nurse out of desperation if its not the right fit; DON’T keep a nurse out of desperation if its not the right fit; DON’T ever treat a nurse like a maid or hired help and make sure that all family members follow that rule as well; and DON’T expect that nurses are going to love your pets as much as you do. You may need to make accommodations for your pets in this process. Don’t expect a nurse to take care of a pet.
